Saving for School

The best way to get money for school is to save it, if you are able to. Saving means little to no debt to pay back later, putting you in a better financial position to start your future.

If your parents started saving early for your education by opening a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP), you may already have benefited from certain programs. The Government of Canada adds money to an RESP that has been opened for you through its Canada Education Savings Grant. And depending on your family's after-tax income, your RESP may be receiving additional funds through the Canada Learning Bond.

There are also other ways to save for school.

Some students decide to work part-time during their studies and full-time during the summer. Check out the Job Tips page for more information.

Some families find money by cutting the costs of regular everyday expenses such as heating, air conditioning, food, travel, and financial, phone and Internet services. Browse through the Learning to Save section for money-saving tips.
