Getting Reassessed
The provinces and territories assess and reassess a student’s financial need according to their own criteria, and that of the federal government.
Many provinces and territories have a formal reassessment process for students who disagree with their assessment. Please contact your Provincial or Territorial Student Assistance Office to find out what you need to do if you wish to contest your loan.
If your financial circumstances change before you enter your post secondary institution or while you’re studying there, you must provide the new information to your Provincial or Territorial Student Assistance Office. You need to do this to avoid receiving an overaward, which you might later have to repay. This could affect your eligibility to receive further loans.
If your eligibility for student loans is reassessed and this changes the amount of money you are to receive, your Provincial or Territorial Student Assistance Office will notify you.
