Collecting Your Excellence Award Payments after January 2010

For Excellence Awards issued in 2009 or earlier, please direct any questions or concerns to the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation by March 15, 2010, by calling toll-free at 1-877-786-3999.

Eligible recipients of Excellence Awards will continue to receive payments following the end of the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation's mandate.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, through the Canada Student Loans Program, will administer outstanding payments from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2013.

Only those students whose applications were approved by the Foundation will continue to receive payments.

The total value of your award, or the amount per payment, will not change.

Am I eligible for the Excellence Awards?

The Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation has announced all of its Excellence Award recipients. If your application was approved by the Foundation, you are eligible to receive one payment per calendar year. To receive a payment, you must be enrolled:

Note: You can receive more than one payment in a single calendar year, but only once. For example, if you do not collect a payment in September 2010 because you were studying part-time, but you return to school full-time in January 2011 you can collect a payment in January 2011. Provided you still meeting the eligibility criteria in September 2011, you can collect another payment in September 2011. Keep in mind that you have to be in school for a period of eight months to receive a payment.

How to renew your award

Here are the steps to renew your award:

  1. Complete the renewal form and send it to the Canada Student Loans Program by mail:

  2. The Canada Student Loans Program will notify you by mail if your request for renewal is approved or not.

  3. If approved, a cheque will be sent to your educational institution for you to pick up.

You have to submit a renewal form each time you would like to receive a payment. Submit the renewal form before the beginning of your study period to make sure that you receive your money on time.

Remember: Renewal forms will not be processed after your study period has ended.

You can download the renewal/deferral form (PDF Version, 347kb). Print and mail the form to the Canada Student Loans Program. If the following form is not accessible to you, please Contact us to obtain alternative formats such as regular print, braille or other appropriate formats.

You can choose to defer your award payment, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria. However, when determining when you want to receive your award payments, please keep in mind that no outstanding awards will be paid after December 31, 2013.
